Peeps Peepsters Bag

These are a candy entirely new to the market this year: Peeps Peepsters. I first say this bag and was confused at first. I had no idea what these things were. So I ended up buying a bag and taking them home to start a tasting session. I do have to commend the designers of the packaging for this candy. They did a marvelous job of keeping the look of the Marshmallow Peeps packaging and style into a bag candy. It feels Eastery and fun.

So, these Peepsters are individually wrapped in colorful foil wrappers in the bag. They’re a little larger than a Rolo. The base is about the size of a quarter and there chocolate has a peep stamped on the top. Again, the candy is very eye-catching.

They smell very sweet and marshmallowy for a lack of a better word. It’s a sweet smell with hints of vanilla and cotton candy.

Peeps Peepsters

So as you can see in the photo, these Peepsters have a interior of marshmallow. The chocolate walls are thick, and the marshmallow interior is rather small. The flavor of it, however, permeates throughout the candy. It has this wonderful, creamy vanilla flavor that blends beautifully with the smooth and sweet chocolate. So this candy has a very sweet flavor, so it’s not for everyone. But it does do a great job of blending chocolate, marshmallow together. It’s funny because you don’t really get marshmallow texture at all, just flavor. And it’s wonderful mix of chocolate/vanilla for the taste.

I’m a fan of these, and when I shared them with my boyfriend, so was he. So much so in fact that he’s finished off the first bag pictured here, and went out and bought another bag of the milk and one of the dark (yes, these come in dark chocolate too, and they’re also really good). I liked to have a few of these with a cup of coffee since they’re so sweet. So in short, big fan of these. Bravo Just Born.

Peeps Milk Chocolate Dips

Easter is coming and there’s some new Peeps to celebrate! Thankfully this year Easter has been more exciting than Valentine’s Day in regard to the candy scene. There’s a lot more “new” candy for Easter that wasn’t around last year. These Peeps are an excellent example of such.

For years Peeps have been an interactive candy during Easter time. You can decorate with them, microwave them, make dioramas with them, freeze them, etc, etc. Local candy shops always wen the extra step and sold chocolate dipped ones, which always seemed to sell well. It wasn’t until last year that Just Born decided to jump on that bandwagon, but the product just wasn’t the same. It was more akin to the marshmallow eggs you find by Russell Stover and Hershey’s.

Now, finally this year, Just Born came out with the perfect chocolate peep. They come in a tray of three, each peep sitting in a protective well and a sturdy p lactic wrapper to keep them from shifting around too much.

They taste exactly as they should. The peeps have a white inside, and that crunchy, grainy exterior that everyone knows and loves. The chocolate is smooth and sweet with a good chocolate flavor. The two go excellently together, and this simplicity makes for an excellent combination.

A Chocolate Peep that’s made to be! If you’ve ever been one to by those candy shop Peeps, or want to give Peeps a second try, these are great to start with!

Before these, neither regular Peeps nor the new chocolate covered Peeps really sold me 100%. These however, are the perfect mix for me, so I’m excited to finally have a Peep I can fall in love with as an Easter treat.

Mike and Ike Holiday Medley Bag

This is the first time I’ve bought a Mike and Ike holiday flavored bag of candies. I know they release special flavor mixes for many of the holidays during the year as I’ve seen them in stores. Yet, I haven’t felt compelled to try them until now. I guess it was the bright red packaging and the Christmas colors that did me in. It’s just that pretty looking.

So inside this “Holiday Medley” is three flavors for three colors. The red is cherry, the dark green is mixed berry (strange, I know), and light green which is lime.

Mike and Ike Holiday Medley

I bet these would look really cute in a candy dish. They reflect light beautifully and the colors are bright and pure.

The cherry tastes as I would expect it to; sweet at first, then a metallic cherry flavor blossoms while a sweetness grows from underneath and retakes the flavor by the finish. It reminds me of a cherry Lifesaver, but sweeter.

The mixed berry starts of very floral and sweet and grows into a flavor that tastes like blueberries as it’s mild and sweet. It’s a very smooth flavor with no tartness to it.

The lime is bright and zesty right away, but has a sweetness to it so it doesn’t come across as too abrasive. It’s not bitter either so it doesn’t have that awful floor cleaner taste to it.

So if you’re a fan of Mike and Ike this is a really well chosen flavor assortment for the holidays. Two sweet flavors rounded out by a zesty one. I’m a big fan of it. Like the other holiday candies I’ve reviewed so far, these would look great in a candy dish. I know I wouldn’t be able to help picking at them if they were out within hand’s reach!

Peep Pumpkin Dark Chocolate

Now today I have the Peeps Dark Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Pumpkin to review! I like how Peeps makes a milk and dark chocolate version of each so people can adhere to their preferences. This one too has awesome Halloween colors and iconography on it.

Peep Pumpkin Dark Chocolate Bitten

This was similar to the Milk Chocolate pumpkin, but this one was odd as there was a thick, sticky orange syrup all over the pumpkin when I opened it. Strange. I guess the marshmallow peed itself? I bought a second one of these to check if it had the same issue, but my second one was clean. It looks like the first was a fluke. Anyways, the chocolate is nice and dark, with a subtle sweetness and rich flavor.

Another great version of this Peep, so really it all comes down to what kind of chocolate you prefer.

Peep Pumpkin Milk Chocolate Package

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means lots of Halloween candy! I love this time of year, as Halloween, as with any candy lover knows, is the best holiday. I’ve tried hard to find new and exciting Halloween candy to review for the blog, but most of what I’ve seen has been a re-hash from last year. *sigh* What’s a candy blogger to do? Well, thankfully, Peeps has given me something new to review. Behold, the Peeps Milk Chocolate Covered marshmallow Pumpkin!

Peep Pumpkin Milk Chocolate

The pumpkins have a wonderfully festive package. Great use of Halloween colors and shapes and showing the Chocolate Peep pumpkin in all of it’s glory. What cool is that when I take the peep out it’s shaped just liked the image of the front of the package. You don’t see that often.

A pumpkin shaped marshmallow, flat on the back side, with triangular nose and eyes. The milk chocolate smells milky and sweet, and is the real thing according to the ingredients.

Peep Pumpkin Milk Chocolate Pumpkin Bitten

My first bite was similar to the chocolate covered Easter Peep back in the spring. I was surprised to find that the interior marshmallow was not the same as the marshmallow used in peeps. It lacks that signature sugar crust we love so much, along with the fact that it’s bright orange, unlike traditional Peep’s pristine white interior.

These are festive and fun so if you’re in the mood for a chocolate covered marshmallow, this is a good bed. If you want a good chocolate covered Peep tho, I recommend you getting a package of the pumpkin ones and hand dipping them at home.
