I feel really badly about the fact that I cannot recall where I found this Nut Job bar. It’s been sitting on the top of my review stash for a few months now, so I have no real indicator where or when I bought it. No matter, it’s really all about how it tastes, right? Barton’s Nut Job’s description reads: “Delicious Double Chocolate, Creamy Caramel…Loaded with Peanuts!”. The front has a peanut characters; one dressed in a beanie, pants and sneakers, wearing multiple rings and a rock guitar. On the other side is a peanut with a backwards baseball cap and jeans with gold chains. I suppose they’re supposed to be “cool”, but I find them silly.
I looked at the Barton’s website for the Nut Job, and it looks like they market it as a protein snack for kids. Which, I find strange, because for this 2.2 oz, 300 calorie bar, there’s only 4 grams of protein in it. That’s not a whole lot. I open the wrapper a tad to take a whiff of the chocolate. It smells of defatted peanuts to me. It is a very nutty aroma, but the peanuts don’t smell as rich as I’m used to. Inspired by the interesting aroma, I took a look at the ingredients to see exactly what is in this candy bar. There’s nothing suspicious about the chocolate, as cocoa butter is listed. The next ingredient is dry roasted peanuts, which, is also seasoned with paprika and garlic powder. I have to admit, having a candy with those two ingredients is a first for me.
The flavor is very nutty right from the start. You definitely taste the peanuts, which, surprisingly taste like the aroma. They taste…flat somehow. Which really contradicts whats’s said in the nutrition labels. Also since there’s peanut pieces in there. So I can’t understand why the peanuts lack the flavor I was expecting. The chocolate and the caramel have nice flavors, even though they take the back seat to the peanut flavor. They give a nice sweetness to it, that has good notes of cocoa, caramel and cream. I do have to notice that the texture of this is really awesome. It’s like a thick, chewy fudge. The peanut pieces are small enough so they don’t create too much of a texture contrast and don’t get stuck in your teeth.
This Nut Job bar I think suffers from not knowing what it wants to be. A protein snack bar or a candy bar. Granted you can be both, a PayDay is an excellent example of that. But this just falls short I feel. It’s not as flavorful as a candy bar, and doesn’t supply enough nutrients to be a snack bar. It is a noble effort, but Nut Job I feel falls short of its name.

Chocolove is another chocolatier that is dear to my heart. Like Chuao, Chocolove was one of those companies who I was acquainted with very early on in my candy blogging career. They were always so excited and passionate about their chocolate whenever I saw them at a trade show, the enthusiasm was quite contagious. Not to mention their chocolate bars are some of my favorites to boot. My sister happened across some new Chocolove flavors and was kind enough to buy some of the bars for me to review. Today is the first of those two chocolate bars.
The bar smells very fruity and sweet. I get nice notes of the chocolate and I can smell a slight nuttiness from the pecans. The chocolate has a nice reddish tint to it and a glossy sheen. You can see the shapes of the pecan pieces on the back of the bar, they look well sized and plentiful. The chocolate breaks off easily and has a nice clean snap, especially for a milk chocolate.
Also, I have to mention that I love the detail that goes into the packaging. The whole wrapper is meant to look like a sealed envelope for a love letter. They try to get all the details just so, but the one I really love is the love poem that’s written on the inside. It’s a great design theme and it comes across as so sincere to me.
The flavor starts of sweet with notes of peach. It’s amazing to me how the flavor is right there from the start, and it’s subtle as well as blending beautifully into the milk chocolate. The peach flavor is authentic, you get that sweetness wit ha hint of fuzz. The milk chocolate is really delicious. It has nice notes of cream, caramel and butter and it very satisfying. I do get a bit of that throat burn from the sweetness, but I still enjoy it. The pecans are sweet and buttery, and they practically melt when you bite into them. It’s a really tasty and unique chocolate bar, as the flavors are solid and really blend well together.
This bar was an instant favorite of both myself and my husband. I really love the peach as an accent flavor to the pecans and the chocolate. It’s a very “southern” flavor in that regard, as I immediately think of Georgia peaches and pecan pies. This bar disappeared quickly and I will snatch up another as soon as I see it in stores. It’s that yummy!

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I hope you are all with loved ones and having a great time!
Toblerone is a candy I only recently started trying. By recent I mean in the past few years, as it was a never a candy that I had as a child. Oddly enough though since I’ve been buying it as an adult, my Mom has started slipping them into our Christmas stockings along with our Terry Chocolate Oranges. A pleasant surprise indeed. Over the past couple years I’ve been able to try a few limited edition Toblerones. Most of them seem to come out in time for the holidays, and the one I found for today’s review is no different in that regard.
To start, I have to say I love the colors on this package. The bright sky blue/turquoise color is so eye-catching and attractive. It also proved a wonderful contrast with the bright red Toblerone flavoring. The “crunchy salted almond” image on the side I mistook at first as honey roasted peanuts. Can you imagine how good that would be? I was a little disappointed to find that it was just salted almonds, but I’m ok with that. I’m sure the makers of this bar knew what they were doing.
The chocolate has a nice rich brown color and a beautiful sheen to it. You can see the standard honey almond nougat flakes in the chocolate and they give it a pretty speckled look. The chocolate smells sweet and has a strong nutty scent to it. It reminds me of how a Snickers smells since it has such a nutty aroma with a hint of salt. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this tastes.
My first bite begins with the flavor of the milk chocolate. It’s sweet and has a nice creamy flavor to it. You then start to get flavors of the honey nougat and the almonds, adding a nice crispy texture and some sweet and nutty flavors. The almonds taste incredibly fresh and have that nice amaretto-almond flavor to them that I love so much. The came a stage of the flavor that I wasn’t expecting, which is a nice kick of salt. The salty kick really brings all the flavors together and enhances them. it’s really flavor magic, I don’t’ know how else to describe it. It’s super yummy and incredibly addicting.
Both my husband and I gobbled up this Toblerone pretty quickly. It was super tasty and it’s so easy to snap off a section and wrap it up for later. The flavor is nutty and satisfying and has that addicting sweet/salty combination. It’s a really irresistible candy bar. A must try if you happen upon it.

If you follow the Ritter Sport page on Facebook, every month or so they hold a contest for a giveaway. I was lucky enough to win one a bit ago, and I was sent this adorable little goodie bag in the mail. How nice! It came wit ha tote bag, a lanyard, and Ritter Sport chocolate bars. It was a lot nicer than I expected, and I now have a great new bag for my work lunches and sweet for my coffee in the morning. I had reviewed all the flavors that came in this gift set, except Ritter Sport Almond, so I’ll take the opportunity to do that now.
The almond bar comes in a beautiful hunter green package. Some almonds tumble down on the package front, with the description of “with almonds frown in the California sunshine”. Almonds are California’s largest export, you know! The bar smells sweet and nutty. I get notes of cream and caramel with a hint of amaretto.
The squares break off nicely despite the large pieces of almonds in here. The chocolate is creamy and smooth and the almonds are fresh and crunchy. A really nice combination. The milk chocolate is sweet with nice notes of cream, caramel and cocoa. But don’t’ let the chocolate kid you, as the almonds are the real star here. They’re fresh and crunchy wit ha wonderful nutty flavor. It’s delicious in its simplicity.
So whether you win free chocolate from Ritter (follow them on Facebook if you want to try for that opportunity) or if you buy it in stores, you really can’t go wrong. I’m continually impressed with their chocolate and the flavors are always tasty. I highly recommend ll their chocolate bars, and am super excited for the new flavors I hear will be released later this year.

This was a find from my local Cost Plus World Market. I was thankful that they carried Lion Bar. I’ve actually had it many times over the year. I just haven’t gotten around to reviewing it yet. I then decided it’s been too long, so I went and searched it out. What I like most about is it the lion roaring on th package. There’s no description or anything that this bar is exactly. Only the words “New and Improved”. Ok I’ll take your word for it Mr. Lion.
Upon further inspection I notice a neat little detail on the package. On the wrapper where it says to recycle. They have a lion putting the paper in the bin, which is very cute.
The bar is long and knobby, like a piece of wood. I bite into it and it immediately it has an interesting texture. It’s thick and chewy with bits that are very light and crispy. Looking at the cross section, it has a wafer center, like a Kit Kat, but more delicate. Surrounding that there’s bits of peanuts, rice crispies, and caramel. It’s a very fun, tasty and complex flavor. The chocolate is smooth and sweet, but not very chocolatey. The wafers are crispy and light. The caramel is thick and sweet and the peanuts add a hint of nuttiness. It’s like a child of a Snickers and a Kit Kat.
It’s a very tasty bar. Hopefully you can understand how I keep going back to it all the time. It’s just so much fun to eat. I recommend trying it if you ever encounter it.
