Chocolove Pretzel in Milk Chocolate

Happy New Years Eve everyone!

This is the second of the two new flavors of Chocolove bars that my sister found for me. Out of the two, this one was her favorite. Which really makes me interested to try it to see if I agree with her. Pretzels and chocolate are a bit overlooked in my opinion. You really only seem them as Flipz and in a Take 5 bar. There’s probably more but nothing is coming to mind right now. My point being, pretzels and chocolate are often so I’m surprised I don’t see more of it. So I am quite glad that Chocolove has made a pretzel bar to add to their line of flavors.

The chocolate is so pretty to look at. The back of it is particularly impressive, as you can see the ample chunks of pretzel that is molded into this chocolate bar.The chocolate smells similar to the chocolate from the Peach Pecan bar from the last review. It smells very sweet and creamy. I detect a slight starchy note and a hint of salt (can you even smell salt?). The aroma is very inviting and makes you want to gobble it all up right away!

My first bite of the bar I got a piece of chocolate and pretzel. The chocolate is creamy and milky, but doesn’t taste as sweet as the Peach one I tried last week. The pretzel is crunchy and has that nice bread-carb flavor to it. Oh, and this bar has just the right amount of salt to it. It really enhances the sweetness of the bar and elevated the flavor to a new level. That and the texture is really great. I love the contrast of the crunchy pretzels, subtle grit of the salt and the creaminess of the chocolate. Very simply in formula but very well executed. Yum!

I also loved this bar a lot. As for picking a favorite? I like them both, and for different reasons. So I don’t think I can answer that question. Both are delicious in their own ways. Regardless, both bars would be a great introduction to the Chocolove line if you’ve never had any. They’re also great for Chocolove veterans like myself. So yummy you’ll fall in love with them all over again!

Peach & Pecan in Milk Chocolate

Chocolove is another chocolatier that is dear to my heart. Like Chuao, Chocolove was one of those companies who I was acquainted with very early on in my candy blogging career. They were always so excited and passionate about their chocolate whenever I saw them at a trade show, the enthusiasm was quite contagious. Not to mention their chocolate bars are some of my favorites to boot. My sister happened across some new Chocolove flavors and was kind enough to buy some of the bars for me to review. Today is the first of those two chocolate bars.

The bar smells very fruity and sweet. I get nice notes of the chocolate and I can smell a slight nuttiness from the pecans. The chocolate has a nice reddish tint to it and a glossy sheen. You can see the shapes of the pecan pieces on the back of the bar, they look well sized and plentiful. The chocolate breaks off easily and has a nice clean snap, especially for a milk chocolate.

Also, I have to mention that I love the detail that goes into the packaging. The whole wrapper is meant to look like a sealed envelope for a love letter. They try to get all the details just so, but the one I really love is the love poem that’s written on the inside. It’s a great design theme and it comes across as so sincere to me.

The flavor starts of sweet with notes of peach. It’s amazing to me how the flavor is right there from the start, and it’s subtle as well as blending beautifully into the milk chocolate. The peach flavor is authentic, you get that sweetness wit ha hint of fuzz. The milk chocolate is really delicious. It has nice notes of cream, caramel and butter and it very satisfying. I do get a bit of that throat burn from the sweetness, but I still enjoy it. The pecans are sweet and buttery, and they practically melt when you bite into them. It’s a really tasty and unique chocolate bar, as the flavors are solid and really blend well together.

This bar was an instant favorite of both myself and my husband. I really love the peach as an accent flavor to the pecans and the chocolate. It’s a very “southern” flavor in that regard, as I immediately think of Georgia peaches and pecan pies. This bar disappeared quickly and I will snatch up another as soon as I see it in stores. It’s that yummy!

Chocolove Holiday Bar

Tis the season for limited edition holiday flavors, and that’s all too clear from a stroll down any holiday aisle in your local grocery or drug store. While I fail to get excited about re-packaged Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or Hershey’s Kisses, my interest was piqued when I found out that Chocolove released a special flavored bar for the holidays. I was lucky and picked one up when I was at the New York City Chocolate Show. I have been very eager to give it a try, but have been waiting until Thanksgiving was over so my festive review was more appropriately timed.

The bar, in typical Chocolove fashion, is decorated to look like a love letter. This one is unique, with an addition of a red ribbon and a picture of a present, so it feels like a present as well. The bar is described as “Fruits & Nuts in 55% Dark Chocolate”. Looking at the ingredients list, I see that “pecans, currants, cherries, walnuts, hazelnuts, orange peel, and ginger” are listed on the back. Already it sounds enticing.

The flavor is of their nice dark chocolate. More importantly it’s bittersweet, which is one of my favorites. You taste a strong presence of orange from the peel. There’s an ever-changing flavor with each bite, as the bits of dried fruits and nuts really effect how the chocolate tastes. I got bites that were slightly more tart with one of the cherries or currants, or nuttier with some of the pecans, walnut or hazelnuts. There’s a constant underlying spiciness that makes the bar feel very cozy and warm. It does evoke the holiday season very well, and it feels very fitting to be munching it as the events draw near.

I’m happy to got two of these bars. It’s a shame that it’ll be gone once the holidays are over, but it gives me something to look forward to next year.

Chocolove 65%

I love trying new chocolate, which I’m sure comes as no surprise at all. It’s really interesting for me to taste what each individual chocolate maker and chocolatier does with it. No two chocolates can taste the same, even if crafted by the same hand. It’s like a visit to an art museum, but for you taste buds.

Chocolove is one of the my favorite recent chocolate discoveries. I got my first taste of them at The New York Chocolate Show last November. I got to sample most of their line of chocolate bars and immediately fell in love with their Toffee & Almonds in 33% Milk Chocolate bar. Once you taste something utterly addictive, it’s only a matter of time until you go back for more. So the next trip to the store I found myself perusing the Chocolove selection and decided on trying the 65% Rich Dark chocolate, since I find bittersweet a good base for judging.

I love the red wrapper as it’s such an appealing color (not to mention my favorite). According to the front, you also get a love note along with the bar of chocolate, so I immediately think this would be a really cute gift for a special someone. The overall design is really cute, meant to look like a piece of mail sent especially to you.

Once the chocolate is free from the paper, you immediately notice the rich dark brown color and a gloss. The bar had a good hard snap to it and the break clean aside from a few pink prick sized air bubble holes. The molded domes of the chocolate have a little embossed curly heart on them and it’s really, really cute. The flavor is very mild and sweet with no notes of frutiness or acidity, which is common in darker chocolates. Instead I get a lot of roasted notes of coffee and cocoa, and accents of earthiness with coconut and some lingering vanilla. The mouthfeel is very rich, the chocolate is smooth and creamy and almost has a “thick” feeling on your tongue. It was especially nice a to savor this and let melt slowly in my mouth.

The Chocolove 65% Rich Dark is a really beautiful tasting bar and it’s been added to my list of chocolates I must have on hand at all times. The flavor and rich mouthfeel makes it feel really indulgent for times when I feel I need to treat myself. You know, so I can show myself some Chocolove!
