Brand of Candy
Happy New Years Eve everyone!
This is the second of the two new flavors of Chocolove bars that my sister found for me. Out of the two, this one was her favorite. Which really makes me interested to try it to see if I agree with her. Pretzels and chocolate are a bit overlooked in my opinion. You really only seem them as Flipz and in a Take 5 bar. There’s probably more but nothing is coming to mind right now. My point being, pretzels and chocolate are often so I’m surprised I don’t see more of it. So I am quite glad that Chocolove has made a pretzel bar to add to their line of flavors.
The chocolate is so pretty to look at. The back of it is particularly impressive, as you can see the ample chunks of pretzel that is molded into this chocolate bar.The chocolate smells similar to the chocolate from the Peach Pecan bar from the last review. It smells very sweet and creamy. I detect a slight starchy note and a hint of salt (can you even smell salt?). The aroma is very inviting and makes you want to gobble it all up right away!
My first bite of the bar I got a piece of chocolate and pretzel. The chocolate is creamy and milky, but doesn’t taste as sweet as the Peach one I tried last week. The pretzel is crunchy and has that nice bread-carb flavor to it. Oh, and this bar has just the right amount of salt to it. It really enhances the sweetness of the bar and elevated the flavor to a new level. That and the texture is really great. I love the contrast of the crunchy pretzels, subtle grit of the salt and the creaminess of the chocolate. Very simply in formula but very well executed. Yum!
I also loved this bar a lot. As for picking a favorite? I like them both, and for different reasons. So I don’t think I can answer that question. Both are delicious in their own ways. Regardless, both bars would be a great introduction to the Chocolove line if you’ve never had any. They’re also great for Chocolove veterans like myself. So yummy you’ll fall in love with them all over again!

Chocolove is another chocolatier that is dear to my heart. Like Chuao, Chocolove was one of those companies who I was acquainted with very early on in my candy blogging career. They were always so excited and passionate about their chocolate whenever I saw them at a trade show, the enthusiasm was quite contagious. Not to mention their chocolate bars are some of my favorites to boot. My sister happened across some new Chocolove flavors and was kind enough to buy some of the bars for me to review. Today is the first of those two chocolate bars.
The bar smells very fruity and sweet. I get nice notes of the chocolate and I can smell a slight nuttiness from the pecans. The chocolate has a nice reddish tint to it and a glossy sheen. You can see the shapes of the pecan pieces on the back of the bar, they look well sized and plentiful. The chocolate breaks off easily and has a nice clean snap, especially for a milk chocolate.
Also, I have to mention that I love the detail that goes into the packaging. The whole wrapper is meant to look like a sealed envelope for a love letter. They try to get all the details just so, but the one I really love is the love poem that’s written on the inside. It’s a great design theme and it comes across as so sincere to me.
The flavor starts of sweet with notes of peach. It’s amazing to me how the flavor is right there from the start, and it’s subtle as well as blending beautifully into the milk chocolate. The peach flavor is authentic, you get that sweetness wit ha hint of fuzz. The milk chocolate is really delicious. It has nice notes of cream, caramel and butter and it very satisfying. I do get a bit of that throat burn from the sweetness, but I still enjoy it. The pecans are sweet and buttery, and they practically melt when you bite into them. It’s a really tasty and unique chocolate bar, as the flavors are solid and really blend well together.
This bar was an instant favorite of both myself and my husband. I really love the peach as an accent flavor to the pecans and the chocolate. It’s a very “southern” flavor in that regard, as I immediately think of Georgia peaches and pecan pies. This bar disappeared quickly and I will snatch up another as soon as I see it in stores. It’s that yummy!

I must confess, I have a big soft spot for Chuao Chocolatier. Back ages ago when I was a newbie candy blogger, Chuao was one of the first “artisan” chocolates I ever tasted. I was immediately in love, and all the people at Chuao have always been so friendly to talk to. Ever since then I have been following the chocolates they make very closely. My frequent readers probably notice that I eat a lot of my chocolate candy with a cup of coffee. Chuao makes chocolates specifically designed to be enjoyed with a cup of coffee. They make the flavors, shape and thickness of the chocolate bar perfect for eating with a cup of coffee. These chocolate bars are called Chocopods. Over the years they’ve been adding and experimenting with all sorts of flavors and varieties. So today I am reviewing two of their newest flavors.
Chuao recently just went through a re-design of all their packaging. They used to be solid colors with just nice lettering on them. The new updated look is going much more in style of the Vosges Haute Chocolate bars have had. Super enticing food photography with a clinical white background and bold lettering. It’s a very “in your face” type of style, as you can see right away the flavors and ingredients used in that chocolate bar. I do not work in marketing so I can’t say if this style is more successful than others, but I do know it’s incredibly eye-catching.
Let’s see how they taste:
Maple Bacon: “Crisp bacon, delicate maple sweetness and a bonfire smoked sea salt, bathed in milk chocolate”. The chocolate is a pretty middle brown wit ha gorgeous glossy sheen. The aroma is dominated by a strong smoky scent of the bacon. It’s a sweet smoky smell, but you do get that aroma of “meat”. It’s really interesting. The flavor starts out chocolatey, then the salt of the bacon starts to come though. The saltiness really enhances the flavor of the milk chocolate, and it comes across as even sweeter and creamier. Once that creaminess subsides you can taste the smokiness of the bacon. The flavor isn’t of bacon per se, but you do get that “smoked meat” essence to it. It’s a lot tastier than I expected and not at all as extreme as I feared. It’s a really nice blending of the two flavors and it comes across as a unique, but still, tasty milk chocolate bar.
Honeycomb: “luscious amber honey, caramelized into crisp bits and enrobed in dark chocolate”. I unwrap the candy to find a beautiful dark chocolate in the shape of a cacao pod. The chocolate smells richly of coffee, cherries and wood. The first bite is incredibly flavorful. You can immediately taste the honey and the sweet honeycomb. The pieces of the honeycomb are really crispy and sweat and is a nice compliment to the smooth chocolate. The chocolate has some subtle fruity flavors of red berries and cream. Just astounding how delicious this bar it. The flavor of the honeycomb and the sweet chocolate really combine into something very different and very tasty.
I really loved these two Chocopods. I think if I had to choose a favorite of the two, it would be the honeycomb. But it’s hard to pick favorites, as each are so unique and appeal to a different flavor profile. I’m sure that on a different day when I was craving saltier and more smokey foods I’d choose the Maple Bacon. Still, the point stands that these are both super yummy, and if you happen to see them, I highly suggest giving them a try.

I really love how creative Marshmallow Peeps have been getting in the past couple of years. You can tell they’ve really been trying hard to replicate how people have been enjoying their chocolate dipped and chocolate covered peeps. So I was especially excited to see that they decided to go and make peppermint flavored Peeps and dip their cute behinds in chocolate for the holidays this year. I’ve really loved this style of Peep back during Easter time when they’ve had the coco Peeps with the chocolate coating, so I’m especially interested to see how the peppermint flavor goes over. It’s an incredibly festive idea and I bought these immediately once I saw them in the store.
Well, first things first! I looked at the ingredients list and the chocolate used here is indeed real chocolate. Phew! The Peeps are just adorable. They come three to a package and each one nestled in their own little plastic sections. The Peeps are a beautiful white with red peppermint flakes on them. The are super cute and super festive. The plastic tray they fit in protects them really well too, so none of my Peeps got squished.
The Peeps smell really intensely of peppermint. You can detect a little bit of the chocolate in the scent, but it’s mainly the peppermint.
The texture of the Peep is really soft and pillowy, like a Peep should be. The chocolate on the bottom is tasty and melts easily on the tongue. The peppermint flavor is the star here, but it’s still not a strong as I was expecting. The Peeps have a nice subtle vanilla flavor accented by the peppermint. The dark chocolate on the bottom has a really nice flavor that compliments the peppermint marshmallow perfectly. Considering I’ve had other Peeps of this variety, I think the peppermint marshmallow works a lot better than the standard marshmallow. It gives the candy a new depth to it. It’s not longer “just” a marshmallow peep.
I highly recommend these to anyone who loves Peeps and also adore the whole peppermint trend that shows up this time of year. I can also see these used for a lot of really neat food decorations; on top of mugs of hot cocoa or to decorate cupcakes. These Peeps taste great and look super cute and festive at the same time!

I was super excited to see that 3 Musketeers came out with a new limited edition flavor for the holidays. I spotted it on one of my trips to Target, which of course always leads me to cruise the candy aisles. I was lucky and spotted this one, since, in a way it looks very similar to the normal “festive” bag of regular 3 Musketeer minis. Over the years I’ve learned to be careful and to read the packages to make sure I’m not missing anything new. And this time it has certainly paid off!
This is quite a big bag of minis, ready for the holiday candy bowl. Each wrapper either is either silver or a nice light cocoa color. The aroma is very sweet and smells very much like a normal 3 Musketeer candy bar. There’s nothing in the appearance that looks different to me. I do very much love the festive artwork on the bag and it makes my brain scream “Yay! Christmas!” over and over.
The flavor is different in the ways I was expecting. The chocolate flavor has a very different essence to it. The chocolate has a very strong edge of dry milk power. It comes across like the aroma when you stick your nose into a bin of Nesquick. Even though cocoa as a drink is very watery in flavor, these candies don’t come across that way at all. Even though the nougat in the center is flavored like cocoa, the chocolate coating elevates the flavor and really makes it into a candy that stands on its own. As for the texture, it’s that texture we all know and love from 3 Musketeers. It’s light and fluffy, but very rich at the same time. Super delicious!
I found myself reaching for these 3 Musketeers the most while having my morning coffee. The fluffy texture (which I do love) and the smooth, rich chocolate flavor paired itself really well with a hot cup of coffee. I wonder since these are hot cocoa flavored, does that mean I had a mocha? I can’t rightfully say since I know little about making coffee drinks. Regardless, I really enjoyed them and the people I shared them with also seemed to enjoy them. They did say that these tasted “different” from regular 3 Musketeers, but they all couldn’t quite lay their finger on it. All I know is they’re yummy and they’re something you should try out.
