I am super happy that I found this candy: Zombie food by Skybar. If you are unfamiliar with Skybar, it’s a classic candy made by Necco, that has four different sections that each have a different filling. I recall my Mom introducing them to me at a very young age, and she claimed it was one of her favorite candy bars. I will forever think of her when I see Skybar. I found this Skybar Zombie Food at Michael’s of all places. I had stopped in for some things and saw them on the candy shelf while I was making my way to the checkout. The bring package immediately caught my eye, as did the word “Zombie” and the Skybar logo in the top left corner.
“So what is Zombie food?” I wondered as I picked up one of the packages. The front of the wrapper reads: “Milk Chocolate covered assortment of brains, feet, and hearts filled with and oozy red caramel”. Well, that certainly explains it! I feel it’s a terribly clever idea! I feel up the wrapper and I find the candy is one large piece, so I’m guessing it’s one “body part” for each package. For my review, I was guessing that the one I had chosen was a brain, as the candy felt head-shaped. I was mistaken.
The first piece I tried was shaped like a realistic heart. It was leaking a little from one of the top corners on the back as the red caramel found a crack and tried to leak out. No matter, it still looked delicious, and I’m not a zombie!
The chocolate smells sweet and creamy. It reminds me of how a Cadbury Creme Egg smells. My first bite is quite flavorful. I was expecting the chocolate to be more hollow on the inside, and have the caramel be more liquid. The candy is not structured that way, although it was a very hot day when I did this tasting, so it’s possible that the candy has lost some of its structure. The caramel is very buttery and toasted, it almost comes across as peanut butter to me at first. The combination of the caramel and chocolate is incredibly sweet, so much so that I had a hard time finishing the sample piece.
This candy was really tasty and really fun. I could see these being handed out at parties and to trick or treaters. They’re the size of the Reese’s Pumpkin, so they aren’t as large as a normal candy bar nor as small as the mini sizes. I mentioned this find to my Mom and she asked me to save her some, which I will as I’m interested to see how she likes them. If you see these around I highly recommend you check them out.

The first of the Halloween candies! It seems that each year finding new, original Halloween candy just gets harder and harder to come across. So far, this year candy hunt has felt a bit easier than past years. Yes, I did see many repeats from years past, and like old friends I am happy to see them again. I’m happy when a seasonal candy is successful. Which, leads me to today’s gem of a find, as I squealed out loud when I saw it in its display: The Cadbury Scream Egg!
It seems Cadbury has finally solved the issue of the CCE only being available at Easter. We now have a Halloween variety, with a very clever name to match! The wrapper sports a black, green and purple color scheme, and it feels very festive. The Cadbury Bunny was shown on the display wearing a wizard’s hat. I will certainly scream at the cuteness!
I unwrap the foil on the CSE, and it looks the same as the CCE. It has the same outer rings on the edges and the star etched into the middle. It smells the same as a CCE. It’s sweet with an intense dry milk dairy scent to it. So familiar and so awesome.
The flavor is just as I remember it. The chocolate is smooth and sweet with the same dairy notes to it as the aroma. It’s creamy with a slight yogurt tang. The nougat cream center is thick and very sweet. The “yolk” is green. Clever! The flavor of it is, sweet of course, with very slight flavors of vanilla and a hint of coconut in there. The texture is slightly grainy and yet so smooth. It’s just a good as the regular CCE from Easter.
So here you go CCE fans! Finally you can get your CCEs during another time of the year. As for myself, I am very happy about it. Now I wait 6 months instead of a year for my fix. I hope you all are as excited about this as I am, as it feels that if any other holiday would make room for a CCE, it would be Halloween.

I found this bag of Pumpkin Cheesecake Kitkats when I was out doing some shopping in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. There’s a ton of adorable little shops down there, and it’s my “to-go” place for much of my holiday shopping. While there, I came across these Kitkats. I’ve had many a Pumpkin Kitkat in my time, and I’m always game for trying them. I’m such a sucker for pumpkin anything. Despite being somewhat pricey due to the fact they’re imported, I snatched these up and excitedly took them home.
The package on these is so adorable. Halloween is long and gone, but I still can appreciate the rich brown and orange color scheme and the adorable Jack ‘O Lanterns with their happy grins. The one with the heart shaped eyes is especially cute. Inside the main bag there’s a bunch of smaller, individually wrapped two finger bars. A nice serving size as it’s not to big, not too small.
The Kitkat smells sweet and slight cream cheesy. The color is an pale golden yellow.
The flavor is very sweet and cream cheesy at first. It’s very delicate as there’s more white chocolate in there to cut the tang of the cheese. You do get a hint of pumpkin, which, I am happy to report, is more like the plain squash part of pumpkin instead of pumpkin pie. I like the real flavor of pumpkin a lot, so I’m happy this isn’t dragged down with a lot of cinnamon and nutmeg. The result is this nice blend of the flavors described that does taste like a delicate, Japanese cheesecake. It’s awesome!
I am really smitten with these. They’re be a treat I’d buy regularly if it wasn’t for the limited availability and the import price. Still, I am going to enjoy the rest of my bag to the fullest. These are a terrific little afternoon pick me up, and they’re also diving with coffee. I recommend these highly to any fan of pumpkin. Mixed with Kitkat, it’s a match made in heaven!

Happy Halloween everyone! It’s the night made for every candy lover out there! This year will be interesting, as it’s the first year while in my new place. I’m curious to see what our trick or treat turn out is. Have a safe and sugar filled night!
When I heard white M&Ms were making a comeback for Halloween this year, I was pretty excited. I became less excited however, when I heard they were “candy corn” flavored and would only be sold in Wal-Mart. Now that I live in Los Angeles, I don’t have a Wal-Mart that’s close enough to justify a drive to find some candy. I’d have to go up to Valencia or down to Orange County to even get close to one. I knew right away I wouldn’t order them online, since they’re always overpriced. I tried to get my boyfriend (who was out visiting PA at the time) and my Mom to both locate a bag for me. Both of those plans fell through. I had all but given hope on acquiring some to review on the blog here when Jeff, a friend of mine from work, dropped a bag on my desk Monday morning. My hero! What a unexpected sweet gesture. A true example of Halloween spirit among adults.
The package is cute, all decked out in yellows and oranges with Red standing in the dead center with a big candy corn suit on. It’s very iconic. I immediately opened the bag and you get the strong scent of sweetness and butter. Its an interesting scent, and it’s not really what I’d call candy corn. It’s a nice aroma nevertheless.
The M&Ms are very attractive. They have the orange, yellow and white colors of normal candy corn. The color mix is very festive, I have to admit. I was surprised when I first picked them up since, they felt greasy. I can’t figure out why, since the ingredients are good, so I don’tr get why they’d feel so slippery on the outside. Part of me wonders if they added flavoring or scent to them and that’s why the outside feels so slick. It’s a mystery….
The flavor is sweet at first, then a flavor of fake butter kicks in pretty strongly. I think the butter flavor is in the shell, because as soon as I dissolve or crunch it away I then get the full flavor of the creamy white chocolate. It;s buttery and sweet with just a hint of chocolate. The flavor does remind me of candy corn, yes, so the flavors here do live up to their expectations. They’re much richer than candy corn though since we have a base of creamy fatty chocolate. It adds some satiety to the candy, which is nice.
These were tasty, I just wish they were not so buttery flavored and were just the plain white chocolate M&Ms like the “Pirate Pearls” were a few years ago. Because of the candy corn flavor here, you miss a lot of fans who love white chocolate but hate candy corn. So it’s a trick or a treat depends on your flavor preferences!
