Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I hope you are all with loved ones and having a great time!
Toblerone is a candy I only recently started trying. By recent I mean in the past few years, as it was a never a candy that I had as a child. Oddly enough though since I’ve been buying it as an adult, my Mom has started slipping them into our Christmas stockings along with our Terry Chocolate Oranges. A pleasant surprise indeed. Over the past couple years I’ve been able to try a few limited edition Toblerones. Most of them seem to come out in time for the holidays, and the one I found for today’s review is no different in that regard.
To start, I have to say I love the colors on this package. The bright sky blue/turquoise color is so eye-catching and attractive. It also proved a wonderful contrast with the bright red Toblerone flavoring. The “crunchy salted almond” image on the side I mistook at first as honey roasted peanuts. Can you imagine how good that would be? I was a little disappointed to find that it was just salted almonds, but I’m ok with that. I’m sure the makers of this bar knew what they were doing.
The chocolate has a nice rich brown color and a beautiful sheen to it. You can see the standard honey almond nougat flakes in the chocolate and they give it a pretty speckled look. The chocolate smells sweet and has a strong nutty scent to it. It reminds me of how a Snickers smells since it has such a nutty aroma with a hint of salt. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this tastes.
My first bite begins with the flavor of the milk chocolate. It’s sweet and has a nice creamy flavor to it. You then start to get flavors of the honey nougat and the almonds, adding a nice crispy texture and some sweet and nutty flavors. The almonds taste incredibly fresh and have that nice amaretto-almond flavor to them that I love so much. The came a stage of the flavor that I wasn’t expecting, which is a nice kick of salt. The salty kick really brings all the flavors together and enhances them. it’s really flavor magic, I don’t’ know how else to describe it. It’s super yummy and incredibly addicting.
Both my husband and I gobbled up this Toblerone pretty quickly. It was super tasty and it’s so easy to snap off a section and wrap it up for later. The flavor is nutty and satisfying and has that addicting sweet/salty combination. It’s a really irresistible candy bar. A must try if you happen upon it.

Villars is a chocolate brand that I see around infrequently, yet I’d never bought it to try some before. I always recognized the packaging right away, and I can’t say exactly why, but I always ended up grabbing another chocolate bar instead. So when I saw these the other day in Cost Plus World Market, I figured it was finally time to give these chocolate a try.
I really like the packaging on these, as they’re very whimsical and pretty. They have a nice logo design, and the image of the pastoral Swiss countryside is very cute. It reminds me of the “Snow White” chocolate hazelnut Lindt bar wrapper. There’s something very classic about it.
The first bar I picked up is the “Chocolate au Lait Suisse”. Unwrapping the bar from its foil covering, you can see it’s sectioned off into two pieces wide and six deep. The design of the bar is very pretty, as each section has a flower relief on it. The chocolate is a nice light brown and is blended well. The back of the chocolate has no dents, bubbles or rippling.
The texture of the chocolate is grainty at first, then becomes incredible rich and smooth in the mouth.
The flavor is very European. The taste starts off sweet, then a blossom of chocolate and milky flavor takes over your taste buds. You have rich choocolate flavor complimented with that “dry milk” dairy flavor. It’s also very sweet, and I preferred to eat this chocolate with a cup of black coffee to cut the sweetness a bit.
Very good and very tasty.
The second bar I bought is the “Swiss Milk Chocolate with Caramel Chips”. This chocolate bar is set up the same way as the normal Swiss Milk flavor. The exception here is that there’s caramel chips in here. The bar design is the same, we have a beautful flower relief on each section. The chocolate is darker than the plain milk chocolate, and you can see the speckles of the caramel chips in the chocolate.
The flavor is a tad different. This milk chocolate is darker than the other, with less of a “dry milk” flavor. Instead you get the flavor of the caramel chips, which are sweet and buttery. The deliver a crisp crunchiness to the chocolate, which makes the texture experience quite different from a normal chocolate bar. Surprisinly this bar is less sweet than the plain milk. It has more going on in terms of flavor and texture, so it feels more complex.
I was impressed with both of these chocolate bars. They seem simple and unassuming, but they are some very nice Swiss chocolate, especially if you’re into that European milk chocolate flavor. I really enjoyed this chocolate with coffee, as the flavors paired up really well. I can see this chocolate pairing up with lots of things, since good chocolate is so versatile like that. I am glad I finally gave Villars a try.

I was lucky to find this bag of Lindt Lindor Holiday Spice Mick Chocolate Truffles (say that three times faster) in Cost Plus World Market the other day. I had originally gone in there to see if I could find the Ritter Sport Espresso that Cybele from Candyblog.net found there, but alas I came back empty handed. I found these Lindor truffles instead though, so I’d say that was a good trade. Lindt is a chocolate brand that I’ve always enjoyed, respected and have kept an eye on. They’ve been forever present in my chocolate-loving life, and I love trying what new things they have to offer.
The package is a wonderful warm russet color with gold lettering. There’s snowflakes scattered on the package, so it does carry a decorative seasonal element. The truffles are protected in a beautiful golden wrapper, so as they may not carry the typical holiday color scheme of red and green, they still manage to feel seasonal. The illustration of the Lindor truffle next to some cinnamon sticks give the viewer a good idea of what to expect with the truffles.
The flavor is wonderful and just reeks of holiday yuletide. The milk chocolate is rich and chocolatey, with nice notes of caramel and cream. The spice flavor is incredible, the predominant spice flavor I taste is nutmeg, accented with cinnamon and some mace. It’s really tasty and it evokes the holiday charm so well. The texture is also amazing, as all the Lindor truffles share. The shell is thick but easy to break into, and the center is so incredibly silky smooth it just feels so luxurious.
I really loved these, as did my boyfriend when we shared some with Sunday morning coffee. They are rich and chocolatey with just the right amount of spice to make them interesting. I plan on going back once everything goes on sale to grab more of these, as they’re certainly a new favorite of mine.

Lindt is a favorite chocolate of mine and has been for some time. I recall my parents buying it on occasion when I was a little kid. They’d had spent some time in Europe and “American” chocolate never satisfied them afterwards. So Lindt was the indulgence of good chocolate back then. It was ingrained into me early on that Lindt was a good chocolate and was something to have from time to time.
Like Godiva, Lindt was been experimenting with new flavors and such in the past few years. This is why the new Black Currant flavor caught my eye. It’s the classic chocolate I love with a new twist. How could I resist! I found this bar only moments before the Godiva Ice Cream Parlor truffles. So yes, I was in new candy overload that day.
The chocolate is a nice middle brown color with a subtle red tones to it. There isn’t much of a sheen to this chocolate, it’s very matte, but it’s still beautiful. The smell is extremely fruity. It’s spot on the aroma of black currants, with their rich, blackberry base and juicy notes of grapes and raspberries. The break for the chocolate is fairly smooth, and surprisingly I noticed these white slivers in the chocolate. Looking at the ingredients list showed there’s small almond slivers in here.
The aroma made me nervous that the chocolate was going to drown out the chocolate flavor. Thankfully my worries were just that. The flavor is very complex. The currant flavor comes forward first, and it’s not where near as strong as the smell would suggest. The chocolate mixed with the currant flavors and it’s very rich and fruity. The flavor is sweet and smooth, with no tart or sour notes. It’s almost like a sweet wine, all fruity and rich. The currants release their nice blackberry and raspberry flavors. The chocolate gives it some sweetness and rounds out the flavor. The almonds give it a subtle crunch but not flavor. Once is awhile you’d get a currant piece, which also just added a chewy texture.
Very good, yummy!

I could start this review by gushing, yet again, about how much I love white chocolate. I’ll spare you the speech this time around. This Lindt bar has been around for some time, and it baffles me that I’ve waited this long to try it. I think perhaps because it took me a bit to find, and like many of my most recent candy finds, Target is where I finally located this bar.
The chocolate is beautiful. It has a white creamy color and it is well studded with almonds. You can see their shapes and colors poking through the ivory chocolate.
The sections of this chocolate bar are rather large, easily an inch and a half on each side. The chocolate is think too, it’s about 1.2 in thick, probably so the almonds fit into the chocolate. The chocolate smells buttery and sweet with a hint of amaretto.
The chocolate is lovely. It’s smooth and creamy, with a nice sweet subtle chocolate flavor with hints of vanilla. It’s an excellent white chocolate. The almonds are fresh and crunchy and deliver a wonderful smooth nutty flavor that compliments the white chocolate so well. It’s a very rich bar, but it’s very delightful in the flavors which are sweet, but not overpowering.
Love this bar. It’s a great example of how a simple white chocolate is very versatile with many ingredients. It’s hard for me to choose which I like better, this or the White Chocolate Coconut bar that Lindt also has. I very much recommend this bar for someone who loves white chocolate or is looking for a good bar to try it for the first time.
