Unreal77 Peanut Butter Cups sweets candy sugar

This is the second of the two Unreal candies I bought to review for the blog. I really loved the Candy Coated Chocolates that I reviewed last time, so imagine my anticipation when I prepared for their Peanut Butter Cups. I was very much looking forward to it!

The wrapper for these Peanut Butter Cups follows the same logic as the Candy Coated Chocolates did. A black background with the “Unreal” logo on the front in a bright color. There’s pretty photos of the Peanut Butter Cups included, which makes the candy even more enticing. It’s a really nice, simple design.

I feel it is always hard to review peanut butter cups, since everyone wants to know what they’re like compared to a Reese’s. Since, you know, Reese’s is the king of peanut butter cups right now.

I excitedly open the wrapper to finally give them as taste. They are packaged similar to most other peanut butter cups. They sit in a protective hard paper tray to keep them from sliding around too much. The cups smell of peanut butter, sweet and roasted. You can also get notes of chocolate mixed in with the strong, nutty aroma. It’s extremely enticing.

The flavor is excellent. The peanut butter is smooth and creamy, and has an excellent roasted, nutty, salty flavor. The chocolate is smooth with a nice milky sweetness to it. The combination of the chocolate and the peanut butter is a beautiful combination, and these peanut butter cups are no exception. So, question of the article: how do they compare to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups? Well, it’s a complicated answer. The chocolate in Unreal’s peanut butter cup is much taster I think. The peanut butter in Unreal’s cup is not as salty or crispy like a Reese’s. So really, it depends on your tastes.

I am a big fan of that Unreal is doing with their candy. They have a bunch of other candies to try besides their peanut butter cups and their candy coated chocolate. I am going to make sure I get to the others soon! In the meantime, I really recommend that you check them out, as so bar both candies I’ve had have been stellar. If you’re a peanut butter fan at all, you should be giving these a try.

Unreal41 Candy Coated Chocolate Unjunked

I first heard about the Unreal line of candies from one of my good friends. She mentioned that she had seen these new candies in her most recent trip to Walgreens and was wondering if I had tried them. I hadn’t at the time, and lo and behold on my next trip to CVS I saw them. The Unreal packaging is very attractive, the background is black with “Unreal” written on the front in a very strange font that covers move of the front. The lettering is in bright colors and is very eye catching against the dark background. They offer a bunch of different candies, but I decided I wanted to start out with the Candy Coated Chocolate.

Unreal has the tagline of “Candy Unjunked”. They don’t use corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors or colors, no GMO ingredients and preservatives. I have to say, I’m super excited to try a chocolate candy that has such honest ingredients! What they’re doing is really honorable, and I’m super excited to try a candy that uses more quality ingredients.
I open the bag to find that the first thing I notice about these candies is that the colors are not what what we’re used to. They’re more natural colors, ones that look like they are found in nature. The colors are muted and more muddy. Burgundy, Olive green, yellow core, and brown are some of the colors I notice as I taste them. The only thing that confuses me a little is that the image of the candies on the wrapper makes them look much more vibrant.

The candies taste of really nice chocolate. I’d love to do a side by side with these sometime with M&Ms. The flavor is much more chocolatey and rich. I get nice flavors of cocoa, coffee, cream and woods. They’re much more satisfying than I ever found plain M&Ms to be. The chocolate flavor here and much more complex and sweet, which makes it more satisfying. The candy shell is crunchy and the chocolate is very smooth, a lovely combination.

I really liked these, and when I shared them with some of my coworkers they really liked them too. One of them mentioned that she liked how they weren’t as sweet as M&Ms are, and you get more chocolate flavor out of them. I totally agree with her comment. I think now I will gladly eat these over plain M&Ms if I have the option (but the peanut butter M&Ms still stand as my favorite). I’ve since bought more of these Candy Coated Chocolates, as I’ve found they’re a great compliment to my morning coffee. If you happen to come across them, I highly recommend you give them a try!

Dove Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel

It’ll probably come as no surprise, but I found these Dove Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels along side the Cookies and Creme flavor on the shelf at Target. I admit that the unusual colors of these packages alerted me that they were new. It’s amazing how just a splash of color can carry so much meaning! Since I was already there looking for new candy, I figured one more for the blog wouldn’t hurt. Plus, dark chocolate and sea salt caramel? Too tasty sounding to resist.

The chocolate’s wrappers are a shiny light blue foil with the Dove logo and black writing on it. The chocolate has a lovely aroma, it smells rich and sweet, with notes of coffee and cream and burnt sugar. Again, these Promises (which I believe these pieces are actually branded) have inspiration messages on the inside. I ate these too fast that I forgot what they said. Oops.

The chocolate is extremely creamy. It has an intense chocolate flavor with a slight note of coffee. The chocolate forms a nice hard shell around the creamy caramel interior. It’s not too sturdy and not too frail, a perfect thickness to keep the caramel protected but easy to bite into. The caramel is buttery and sweet, and you can certainly taste the hint of sea salt. The sea salt is only enough to notice, so it’s not overly salty. The caramel is flowing and smooth, and thankfully not too liquid so that it would be easy to spill. Overall the mix of flavors is really nice; mix of chocolate and buttery caramel that’s kissed with salt. It’s a really lovely combination.

I enjoyed these far more than I expected. These are super tasty and I shared my bag with my coworkers, who also all loved them. I really enjoyed them with morning coffee, as the chocolate and caramel are perfect compliments. Regardless of how you prefer to eat them, if you’re looking for something new to try, if you’d like to give a salted chocolate a go, or if you enjoy chocolate with caramel, do check these out. They just might be your new favorite.

Dove Cookies and Creme

I came across these Dove Cookies and Creme chocolates by accident while searching out the Extra Root Beer gum. I was in Target and just checked the candy asile to see if the gum was there, and it was, but I also found these. I was excited to see these Dove Cookies and Creme candies because I love white chocolate. I haven’t seen any white chocolate offerings from Dove since the peppermint chocolates that they sell around Christmas. Excited with my find I grabbed a few bags, as they were on sale, and took my treasures home.

I remember when Dove chocolate hit the market back in the 1990s (when they had wrappers that looked like this). Dove has done really well with moving from just the candy bars to a selection of bagged chocolates in different flavors. They have a large selection of different types of chocolate available now, and this Cookies and Creme flavor is one of their newest.

Opening the bag, the chocolate pieces all have a black and white design on the wrappers. They are undone easily and each interior has a inspiration message. The one I had for this review read “Rick big. Win big”. Inspiring indeed.

The chocolates are a nice creamy off white color, as good white chocolate should be. The chunks of cookie are easily seen in the chocolate. They are large and give it a real “cookies and cream” appearance. The chocolate has a faint aroma, but that of cocoa butter as white chocolate should smell.

The flavor starts off extremely creamy, with nice fatty notes of cocoa butter and a subtle notes of chocolate and vanilla. The cookie pieces are delightfully crunchy, but they have no real flavor from what I can tell. Together you get this wonderful creamy and crunchy contrast. You get the flavors of nice white chocolate accented with the cookie bits. They’re fun to eat, and the fact that they’re in single pieces makes it easy to ration them. Even though I admit I’ve eaten more than anticipated on more than one occasion.

I really enjoyed this candy, and I’ve been recommending them to my friends who enjoy the Hershey’s Cookie’n'Creme bar. “Why?” do you ask, well, it’s because they are made with better ingredients than the Hershey’s version (but they are also more expensive). In this case you pay for quality. I commend Dove for these, and I hope they will stick around for a long time.

Jelly Belly Snapple

I recall seeing a press release from Jelly Belly a few months ago announcing that their new flavors were going to be Snapple themed. I felt excited about this, since I know Snapple makes some unique drinks that they could use as good inspiration. Some time has passed, and I’ve seen product sample photos on other blogs. I was biding my time until I encountered them in stores, then Jelly Belly PR reached out to me and asked me if I’d like some same to review for the blog. I took them up on their kind offer, never thinking to ask what they planned on sending my way. To my delight, I saw a bag of the Snapple flavors once I received the package from them.

The package is nice and pretty straightforward. I really commend them for posting a flavor key on the back, so you know what flavors are included and what they’ll look like. It’s easy this way to pick out your favorites first, or search for that one flavor you want to try. I immediately went for the pink lemonade, in case you were wondering.

Fruit Punch (purple): The flavor starts off very fruity and you get notes of peaches, cherries, pineapples and oranges. Very tasty and you do get that sense of fruit punch.

Kiwi Strawberry (deep pink with spots): This is very sweet and fruity. I do taste strawberry with very “pink” flavors. It almost heads into “cotton candy” in terms of its sweetness. It’s very good, but I get no hint of kiwi in there.

Mango Maddness (TM) (orange): This one is immediately mango. It hits you with that sweet, tropical flavor. It’s very juicy, and you get the notes of mango with peach and passion fruit.

Cranberry Raspberry (pinkish red): This one I really liked. The raspberry is very sweet and jammy. The flavor is spot on. The cranberry adds a beautiful tartness to it that really rounds out the flavor. Super yummy.

Pink Lemonade (light pink): This one starts off zesty with a sweetness to it, just like real lemonade. It tastes a little bitter at points, but the moments are infrequent and the flavor is very nice.

Interesting flavors, but seem to play it on the safe side. None of these are actual Snapple flavors I ever bought as a drink. I would have been interested to see them do some of their iced tea flavors. Or, and I know this is far fetched, but the flavors from that “Elements” line (which was out in the late 90s) that I felt was really unique. I really liked these jelly beans, I just felt that the flavors are very similar to what Jelly Belly already offers. I’ve also already bought a few bags to nibble on at work since doing this review. They are tasty!
