These are one of those Halloween candies that I see around every year, yet I have no idea who makes them or what they’re called. When I’ve tried looking it up I just get online I get “bulk foil pumpkin balls”, which isn’t the best of names. I found these Madelaine Halloween Crisp Balls on the same trip to Michael’s where I encountered the Skybar Zombie Food. I immediately knew I wanted to review these for the blog, but I was also excited to finally have a name for these! Halloween Crisp Balls.
The appearance of these Halloween Crisp Balls is what immediately catches your eye. They are beautiful! The bright orange color immediately catches your eye, and the face of the Jack ‘O Lantern is so classic and appealing. It feels a tad vintage, and I really like that. I even love the little green leaves they put at the pumpkin’s top. So cute! They’re about the size of large marbles, so the pieces are neither to big nor too small.
The foil comes off easily in one piece if you take your time with it. The chocolate is a middle brown color, the color is not especially rich and it’s a bit waxy looking. You can see hints of the crisps in there. Its smells sweet and chocolatey, with a note of caramel. The texture is the first thing I notice, it’s smooth and the crisps are especially crunchy. The chocolate is very sweet and has lots of notes of cream and butter. It’s not the most chocolatey chocolate, but it’s still really yummy and certainly a great snacking chocolate. The combination of the size, texture and flavor makes these very irresistible.
I can see these looking absolutely adorable in a candy dish, or even at a candy bar for an event. They’re so colorful, festive and pretty! Even having some with my coffee, I felt as if that wasn’t enough of a way to showcase them. Yes, it tastes great, but I felt a way to capture it’s eye appeal. Beautiful and delicious, these candies are a great find. I hope to see them around more places soon.

Out of all the Halloween candy that I’ve found, this is the only one that’s actually fruit flavored. Have you realized that so much of Halloween candy is chocolate? I know there’s candy corn to balance it out and a handful of Halloween shaped gummies, but mostly it feels like it’s chocolate. There’s certainly a reason for this, as chocolate is immensely popular and well loved. Even as a kid I ranked a lot of the chocolate candy I’d get at Halloween as the “favorites”. This is a big reason why this mix of Mike & Ike Mummy’s Mix stood out to me. Yes it was new, but also it’s a fruity candy and that stood out to me.
So, I’m a little sad to report that the only thing that’s Halloween themed with this candy is the packaging. Once you open the box you have normal Mike & Ike’s in your hand. I’m not complaining mind you, I just don’t want my readers to expect more when there isn’t more. Right now there’s a big ad campaign regarding Mike & Ike who are splitting up right now, but maybe they’ve come back together and made peace for Halloween since both their names are proudly side by side here. This is a movie theater sized box and once you open it, it’s opened. There’s no extra plastic or foil bag in here to help contain the candy, only the box.
Lemon: Oh, how I love lemon! This flavor is only lightly tart, so it’s a good lemon flavor for those who prefer the sweeter flavors. You do get some citrus flavors, but they are very bright and are accented with the sweetness. Not as tart as I’d like, but very tasty.
Orange: The flavor is immediately really juicy and sweet. You get a nice sweet/tart notes of orange that gradually fades to just sweetness. Very tasty and great flavor.
Grape: The candy is very dark in color, it almost looks black. The taste is very authentic grape, I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s like grape jam, but more sour. I even get hints on wine in the sour bits, I’m please with how complex this tastes. Normally I’m not a big fan of grape flavored candies, but this one is really awesome.
Lime: Lime can be a flavor that’s really hit or miss. Thankfully this flavor is very good. It doesn’t taste of floor cleaner, but you do get the notes of lime zest. Like the lemon, they’re made much softer by the additional sweetness. That makes this also very friendly to people who prefer the sweeter flavors. This is much tastier than I was expecting.
Raspberry: I have to hand it to Just Born, I’m glad they went with a different flavor other than cherry for the red. The flavor is sweet and I am strongly reminded of jam. It has a rich sweetness rounded out with some tart notes and some nice floral berry flavors. It’s good, but I like the lemon, grape and orange flavors way more.
I am really pleased with this mix! I am a fan for sure. I think if you’re more of a fruity candy lover, you should certainly try these out. I can’t say that the actual candy is the most “spooky” with all the rainbow colors, but it tastes great and that’s what really matters.

One of the candies I really look forward to every Halloween is candy corn. I know it’s the type of candy that people either love or hate, and I feel it’s pretty obvious that I belong in the “love” category. I love how it look, how it tastes, and how it symbolizes that Halloween is coming. In the past few years candy corn has been getting some makeovers. There’s been new flavors of candy corn, gummi candy corn, marshmallow candy corn, and even Hershey’s Kisses Candy Corn. So I hope all this means that candy corn is gaining in popularity.
I got this bag of Brach’s “Fall Favorites” Candy Corn mix on a trip to Target. I was lucky to catch their early Halloween displays which is where I found this mix. What immediately called out to me about this mix was that it has chocolate covered candy corn in it. I’ll say that again, chocolate covered candy corn. I cannot express how excited I am.
Brach’s candy corn is my favorite out of all the brands that exist out there. It’s the one I enjoy most, with its grainy texture and sweet flavor kissed with honey. The candy corn are colorful, but more irregular in shape than I’m used to in other mixes. Some pieces are missing color stripes, some are smaller in shape, other have tips that have crumbled off in transit. Still, on the whole they are beautiful and incredible tasty.
Mixed into the candy corn is the chocolate covered candy corn. The front of the package reads 100% Milk Chocolate, and indeed the ingredients list backs it up. The chocolate covered pieces are large, almost double in size as a normal candy corn. Brach’s did not skimp on the chocolate dipping. The flavor first of the sweet chocolate, the texture is soft and smooth. You get lots of notes of butter and cream, accented with the honey of the candy corn. On the whole it’s incredibly sweet, but still tasty and enjoyable.
I really liked these, but unless you’re someone who can handle intense sweetness, these may be too much for you. Personally I think I still prefer normal candy corn, but in a festive candy bowl I’m sure there would go over really well. I think I am going to buy a few back so stockpile so I can get my candy corn and my chocolate fix at the same time.

On that same trip to Target I found these Caramel Apple Milky Way minis. This find took me completely by surprise, since I hadn’t heard any announcement by Mars nor had seen any mention of them on fellow candy blogs. This was a new candy gem that I had found completely on my own, which I will admit, makes it more exciting. I immediately snatched up a bag and knew they’d be an excellent new limited edition Halloween candy to review for my readers.
Thankfully these came in a big bad of minis, because they’re so much easier to share that way. The bag is a delightful apple red, with an image of a caramel apple on the side with caramel ripples from a opened Milky Way bar making the “Caramel Apple” wording on the bottom. The minis have the pretty red stripe belting the wrapper on the minis. Opening one up, you can immediately smell the caramel apple. It’s quite impressive actually how they do get the aroma spot on.
The flavor starts off sweet, with the first flavor you notice is definitely apple. It’s a strange flavor, mainly because it’s not just apple. It’s apple cinnamon, like it’s a packet of instant hot cider mix. This was unexpected on my part. I’m guessing the apple flavor is coming from both the caramel and the nougat filling, as the nougat filling is bright white and isn’t the same as classic Milky Way. Once the apple flavor subsides some, the caramel flavor popes through with great buttery flavors. I’m surprised because you really don’t taste much chocolate in this Milky Way, despite there’s still a chocolate coating. On the whole it does indeed convey the flavor of a caramel apple, but the apple is “off” because of the addition of the cinnamon element. It’s a little strange, but still tasty.
My fiance loved these way more than I did. I thought they were good, but I didn’t really eat any beyond the few I needed for the review. My fiance however kept eating them and even grabbed a few to add to his lunch at work. Point being, there are certainly worth a try.

I am super happy that I found this candy: Zombie food by Skybar. If you are unfamiliar with Skybar, it’s a classic candy made by Necco, that has four different sections that each have a different filling. I recall my Mom introducing them to me at a very young age, and she claimed it was one of her favorite candy bars. I will forever think of her when I see Skybar. I found this Skybar Zombie Food at Michael’s of all places. I had stopped in for some things and saw them on the candy shelf while I was making my way to the checkout. The bring package immediately caught my eye, as did the word “Zombie” and the Skybar logo in the top left corner.
“So what is Zombie food?” I wondered as I picked up one of the packages. The front of the wrapper reads: “Milk Chocolate covered assortment of brains, feet, and hearts filled with and oozy red caramel”. Well, that certainly explains it! I feel it’s a terribly clever idea! I feel up the wrapper and I find the candy is one large piece, so I’m guessing it’s one “body part” for each package. For my review, I was guessing that the one I had chosen was a brain, as the candy felt head-shaped. I was mistaken.
The first piece I tried was shaped like a realistic heart. It was leaking a little from one of the top corners on the back as the red caramel found a crack and tried to leak out. No matter, it still looked delicious, and I’m not a zombie!
The chocolate smells sweet and creamy. It reminds me of how a Cadbury Creme Egg smells. My first bite is quite flavorful. I was expecting the chocolate to be more hollow on the inside, and have the caramel be more liquid. The candy is not structured that way, although it was a very hot day when I did this tasting, so it’s possible that the candy has lost some of its structure. The caramel is very buttery and toasted, it almost comes across as peanut butter to me at first. The combination of the caramel and chocolate is incredibly sweet, so much so that I had a hard time finishing the sample piece.
This candy was really tasty and really fun. I could see these being handed out at parties and to trick or treaters. They’re the size of the Reese’s Pumpkin, so they aren’t as large as a normal candy bar nor as small as the mini sizes. I mentioned this find to my Mom and she asked me to save her some, which I will as I’m interested to see how she likes them. If you see these around I highly recommend you check them out.
