E.Wedel Raspberry

Having a Cost Plus World market nearby certainly gives me easy access to a lot of foreign candies. That is where I found this E.Wedel Milk Chocolate with Raspberry bar. I grabbed it because it was Polish and I felt I hadn’t reviewed anything Polish in a long time. This chocolate particularly called to me because of the addition of the fruit. I really enjoy fruit fillings in chocolate, so I felt particularly drawn to this chocolate bar.

The package is beautiful with a background of deep royal blue with some of raspberry pink and white as accents. The illustration on the front shows a square of the chocolate being splashed with more liquid chocolate and full, plump raspberries. I can’t read most of the package as it’s all written in Polish, but I’m sure it must be very descriptive.

The chocolate is a nice middle brown color and the squares about about one inch square. It’s incredibly soft to break and I easily took a piece off. Although, it could be the LA heat that makes it so soft! You can see some of the cream filling in the broken off square. The chocolate smells sweet and very intensely of raspberries. It’s floral with an hit of something artificial that I can’t lay my finger on. Overall it’s a very nice scent.

To start, the taste is nice! On your first bite you get all three flavors blended at once. The chocolate is sweet and doesn’t deliver much flavor, then you get the creaminess from the filling, then the sharp fruitiness of the raspberry jam. The jam is very “red” and has the sweet berry flavor, but it also has an unexpected tartness to it. Overall the flavors blend together very well and make for a delicious filled chocolate. I’d certainly say that the raspberry is the foremost flavor here, as the chocolate and cream tend to recede behind the powerful fruitiness. The flavors are balanced beautifully and I’d image it’d have a very wide appeal.

To add to this review, my husband also bought a black cherry version of this bar. He liked it so much it was gone in a sitting. Well then. I believe that speaks for itself! This bar was really tasty and I’m glad I gave it a try. It just goes to show that Poland makes tasty chocolate too!

Chocolove Pretzel in Milk Chocolate

Happy New Years Eve everyone!

This is the second of the two new flavors of Chocolove bars that my sister found for me. Out of the two, this one was her favorite. Which really makes me interested to try it to see if I agree with her. Pretzels and chocolate are a bit overlooked in my opinion. You really only seem them as Flipz and in a Take 5 bar. There’s probably more but nothing is coming to mind right now. My point being, pretzels and chocolate are often so I’m surprised I don’t see more of it. So I am quite glad that Chocolove has made a pretzel bar to add to their line of flavors.

The chocolate is so pretty to look at. The back of it is particularly impressive, as you can see the ample chunks of pretzel that is molded into this chocolate bar.The chocolate smells similar to the chocolate from the Peach Pecan bar from the last review. It smells very sweet and creamy. I detect a slight starchy note and a hint of salt (can you even smell salt?). The aroma is very inviting and makes you want to gobble it all up right away!

My first bite of the bar I got a piece of chocolate and pretzel. The chocolate is creamy and milky, but doesn’t taste as sweet as the Peach one I tried last week. The pretzel is crunchy and has that nice bread-carb flavor to it. Oh, and this bar has just the right amount of salt to it. It really enhances the sweetness of the bar and elevated the flavor to a new level. That and the texture is really great. I love the contrast of the crunchy pretzels, subtle grit of the salt and the creaminess of the chocolate. Very simply in formula but very well executed. Yum!

I also loved this bar a lot. As for picking a favorite? I like them both, and for different reasons. So I don’t think I can answer that question. Both are delicious in their own ways. Regardless, both bars would be a great introduction to the Chocolove line if you’ve never had any. They’re also great for Chocolove veterans like myself. So yummy you’ll fall in love with them all over again!

Peach & Pecan in Milk Chocolate

Chocolove is another chocolatier that is dear to my heart. Like Chuao, Chocolove was one of those companies who I was acquainted with very early on in my candy blogging career. They were always so excited and passionate about their chocolate whenever I saw them at a trade show, the enthusiasm was quite contagious. Not to mention their chocolate bars are some of my favorites to boot. My sister happened across some new Chocolove flavors and was kind enough to buy some of the bars for me to review. Today is the first of those two chocolate bars.

The bar smells very fruity and sweet. I get nice notes of the chocolate and I can smell a slight nuttiness from the pecans. The chocolate has a nice reddish tint to it and a glossy sheen. You can see the shapes of the pecan pieces on the back of the bar, they look well sized and plentiful. The chocolate breaks off easily and has a nice clean snap, especially for a milk chocolate.

Also, I have to mention that I love the detail that goes into the packaging. The whole wrapper is meant to look like a sealed envelope for a love letter. They try to get all the details just so, but the one I really love is the love poem that’s written on the inside. It’s a great design theme and it comes across as so sincere to me.

The flavor starts of sweet with notes of peach. It’s amazing to me how the flavor is right there from the start, and it’s subtle as well as blending beautifully into the milk chocolate. The peach flavor is authentic, you get that sweetness wit ha hint of fuzz. The milk chocolate is really delicious. It has nice notes of cream, caramel and butter and it very satisfying. I do get a bit of that throat burn from the sweetness, but I still enjoy it. The pecans are sweet and buttery, and they practically melt when you bite into them. It’s a really tasty and unique chocolate bar, as the flavors are solid and really blend well together.

This bar was an instant favorite of both myself and my husband. I really love the peach as an accent flavor to the pecans and the chocolate. It’s a very “southern” flavor in that regard, as I immediately think of Georgia peaches and pecan pies. This bar disappeared quickly and I will snatch up another as soon as I see it in stores. It’s that yummy!

Hedonist Sea Salt Caramels

The holiday season is now in full swing! This is an exciting time for any candy lover as the sweets that come out for the Holidays are always interesting and delicious. Which is why I was super excited to hear from Hedonist Artisan Chocolates about reviewing some complimentary samples their Salted Caramels. It has been a few years since I tried and reviewed the Hedonist Chocolates’s Holiday Truffle Collection. It was super delicious and awesome so I was most eager to give their Salted Caramels a try.

I first need to comment on the beautiful packaging that these Salted Caramels come in. It’s simple yet so very stylish with the dark brown box and the simple golden rod yellow ribbon. It speaks of elegance with the subtle styling. Once the box is opened, the caramels are beautifully arranged in a tray that keeps them separated and safe. The milk and dark varieties are easy to distinguish, one is noticeable lighter in color. Each has salt sprinkled on top. They smell rich of chocolate, but I detect no notes of caramel in there.

Hedonist Sea Salt Caramels

Dark Chocolate Caramel: You immediately taste the salt on your first bite, which elevates the caramel into a whole new level of intensity. The sweetness of the chocolate and the butteryness of the caramel are elevated and the flavor is more grand. The richness of the dark chocolate delivers sweetness that isn’t overpowering and mingles nicely with the salt. The buttery caramel it out of this world! It’s smooth and not too sticky in texture. The flavor is complex, with the flavor rooted in butter accented with nice toasted notes. Again, mixed with the salt, just makes the flavor simply “pop”. It’s incredibly deliciousness.

Milk Chocolate Caramel: The salt really makes these chocolate incredible. The milk chocolate is sweet and creamy, and adds a lovely sweetness but not much chocolate flavor. The caramel is so delicious. It’s buttery and sweet, with nice deep toasted notes that contrast beautifully with the salt. Because the milk chocolate isn’t as flavorful as the dark chocolate, you can taste the caramel much better. I found that I got even more flavors out of the caramel when tasting the milk chocolate pieces. Along with the buttery ans toasted notes, I get a tad of smoke which reminds me of how toasted marshmallows smell. It’s so a delightful play of flavor and texture as you eat it. These are meant to be slowly savored as the flavors are so wonderful.

This package also came with a surprise: Candy Cane Bark!

Hedonist Peppermint Bark

Gorgeous isn’t it?

The slabs of bark are thick, as least a 1/4 of an inch. They’re mainly bittersweet chocolate (55%), with white chocolate swirls on top and a generous coating of candy cane crumbles. They are very attractive!

Despite all the candy cane crumbles, this bar still smells of chocolate. It’s a sweet smell too, full of cream, caramel and coffee. The flavor is a wonderful balance of peppermint and chocolate. This is an Andes Mint on super steroids. You first get the flavor from the candy canes, with their sweet and intense peppermint flavor. It’s cool and refreshing and leaves a wonderful fresh flavor in your mouth. The chocolate is just luscious, it’s creamy, sweet and incredibly chocolatey. It compliments the candy cane bits so well. I couldn’t stop reaching for this bark one I opened the package, a sign that it is indeed irresistible.

I simply loved these samples from Hedonist Chocolates. They were really delicious and you could tell that they really used fresh, quality ingredients in making these chocolates. Both the Salted Caramels and the Candy Cane bark didn’t last very long between my husband and myself eating them once I had my tasting notes for the review. I know several of my family members who are going to love these, and I plan to buy them some for the holiday season (some of them are caramel people). I’ll buy myself another box of course too. Hedonist have really kept up the quality since I last sampled their chocolates, and I greatly look forward to when I can have some again!

Divine Coffee Milk Chocolate

I am going to start this review by saying that I am already a big fan of Divine Chocolate. Since I am buying candy so often for the blog, I don’t get to buy it and enjoy it as often as I’d like since I am busy trying new things. I was in my local Whole Foods the other day and I saw this new Coffee Milk Chocolate bar that just yelled at me from the shelf. I knew I had to try it for the blog. I was especially excited about this bar, much like the Strawberry White Chocolate bar that Divine also makes, since coffee and chocolate is such a natural pair. I’m really surprised that I don’t see it around more often.

The wrapper is really pretty. The background of a rich brown adorned with designs of black on gold decorate the front and edges. “Divine” is written in embossed curly gold letters across the front with the tagline of “Heavenly Chocolate with a Heart”. The “Fair Trade Certified” logo is proudly displayed on the upper left. What’s not to love?

The chocolate has a beautiful medium brown color and a subtle sheen. It smells rich and creamy with an intense coffee scent. You can tell that this flavor will be powerful. I also get some notes of cream in there as well, which makes me look even more toward my first bite. The chocolate is section off nicely into squares that are four across and six deep. It makes for a perfect sized piece of chocolate in my humble opinion. Each comes in about about 1/2 inch long, 1/3 wide and 1/4 deep. I break of fa piece to find that this also has a really nice, clean snap to it. I haven’t tasted this chocolate yet and I’m already in love!

I take my first bite and I’m in heaven. Why? I feel no coffee grounds mixed in here. Some coffee chocolates I’ve had decided that adding coffee grinds to the chocolate was the “best” way to add some flavor. Flavor, perhaps, but having a sandy-textured chocolate as as result it hardly worth it. The flavor is immediately smooth and you get notes of cream, caramel and chocolate. The chocolate flavor escalates as the coffee flavor also starts to show up. The two blend together, neither one overtaking the other, but working together to give the most intense and flavorful mocha combination I’ve ever tasted. It’s so heavenly and delicious. The texture is also silky smooth and thick on our tongue so it feels incredible luxurious.

All I can say is, I love this chocolate. It’s really amazing. It has great texture, it has amazing flavor and it’s fair trade certified. If you’re a coffee chocolate lover, you must try this chocolate bar.
