This egg is the one Russell Stover Egg that I am on the hunt for every Easter. Out of all the flavors they offer, this one is my favorite. I’m a sucker for anything maple and this candy is a great example of how much I love it. I was lucky enough to find a few of them in the CVS by my current job. Usually you have to find these pretty swiftly after the stock being put onto shelves because this flavor sells out quickly. I bought a few of them for myself and my fiance (he is in love with this flavor too), and was excited to do a review of them for the blog.

I really love the packaging on these as they’re simple and colorful, so they feel festive without going overboard on the design elements. That and the package does a pretty good job of keeping things fresh, even though there’s no protecting them if they happen to get squished. So you need to be careful transporting them. 

This egg is covered in dark chocolate and smells heavenly once unwrapped. It’s a rich smell full of note of cocoa, maple, coffee and coconut.

The dark chocolate is a nice “medium” flavor. It’s not too sweet, and it had tastes of chocolate and coffee. The flavors are muted though, and you have a very think mouth feel from the chocolate’s melt. It’s really lovely. The maple cream is fluffy almost like a marshmallow, but it’s much moister and behaves more like a mousse. The flavor is immediately of maple, with sharp sweet notes, a hint of toast and a slight nutty edge to it. It’s so good it’s sublime.

I really don’t know what else to say about this candy, since I’ve gushed about it enough. I have a small stash going since I can only get this treat once a year!

I saw this Peeps Crispy Rice Marshmallow Treat neat the normal Peeps on the store shelf. Something new! I immediately scooped one up to take home to review for the blog. Not once did I stop to ask myself if this was really candy. It had “Marshmallow Peep” written all over it so I didn’t question it. Once I opened it up to review it, I had a bunch of questions filling my head. Had this been a “normal” rice crispy treat I would have not considered it candy. This is different somehow. Maybe it’s the branding, maybe it’s the inorganic colors. But when I bought it it seemed a perfectly natural addition to my blog.

I will try to think more about these purchases in the future.

So what we have here is a Marshmallow Peep Marshmallow Treat. The package does its best to display what’s inside the wrapper. It’s a bight blue marshmallow treat in the shape of a bunny with pink and yellow bunny shaped sprinkles. Pretty straightforward. I think the only thing missing from the actual food inside are the bunny’s eyes.

This thing is terrifying to look at. It’s bright turquoise and has pink and yellow bunny sprinkles on it. It smells of fake butter and vanilla.

It’s perfectly moist and it’s easy to pick apart. The flavor is the same as it smells. Fake butter, fake vanilla flavor. It’s very sweet, and has a strange artificial flavor to it. Maybe it’s all that food coloring? The rice crispies are nicely crisp, and that’s the only nice thing I can say about this.

I’m probably too spoiled on homemade treats all my life to fully appreciate this. I taste too many fake flavors and odd textures for me to find this appealing. That color alone is enough to make me go running in the other direction. Still, if you’re a big fan of marshmallow treats and unusual colors appeal to you, I suggest you seek these out.

I was happy to find these chocolate dipped Peeps in my local Target. Goodness that name is a mouthful though! So much information packed into one little name. I was sad that I didn’t find the Easter version of these, which were the strawberry chocolate ones. Chocolate mousse is good enough for me though! I readily admit that I was never the biggest Peep fan. They were a candy my parents never bought or enjoyed themselves, so it wasn’t until college that I had my first Peep. I admit I wasn’t terribly impressed with them. But since doing my candy blogging and trying the chocolate covered Peep from last year, I am ready to say that I found a Peep variety I finally enjoy.

These Peeps come packed three to a package, all neatly nestled into a tray that keeps them upright and safely separated. The package came in both pink and green colors. That made me take way too long in the store deciding which I’d prefer to photograph.

The do smell chocolatey. The aroma reminds me of packaged brownie batter or hot cocoa mix. The peeps are cute, as always. They are only different in their brown coloring (before only found in the bunny shape) and their chocolate dipped butts.

They taste….pretty good! The overall effect is pretty chocolatey. The marshmallow is soft aand has that crispy sugar coating that we all love in peeps. The chocolate bottom adds and great chocolate hit that makes this Peep taste particularly heavenly. It’s a great way to eat a Peep and have your chocolate too!

I really love the candies that Brach’s makes for the Easter candy season. I think they have the biggest variety of candies out of all the candy makers out there. The have fruit jelly beans, spice jelly beans, licorice jelly beans, malted milk eggs, marshmallow chicks and rabbits just to name a few. I was super excited to find these Jelly Chicks & Rabbits, since these are new for me and I thought I’ve tried (yet not blogged) most of what Brach’s has to offer.

The jellies come in one of two shapes, either a rabbit or a chick. The bag is an assorted mix of flavors and colors, so it’s a nice rainbow inside the bag. The jellies are large, a tad larger than a quarter. The chew is think and dense, but thankfully not sticky. 

Grape: Starts off very juicy flavor of grapes and “purple”. Its slightly medicinal, with a bit of thet grape cough syrup flavor. It’s not a bad grape, I actually kinda enjoyed it.

Lemon: This is bright and tart, with an excellent hint of zest to it. It’s a lovely lemon flavor that has a slight sweet side to it which balances out the zestiness to it.

Apple: Starts off very floral and perfumey. It reminds me of a scented candle. The the “apple” flavor blossoms, and you get this jolly rancher sour apple type flavor that I didn’t like. It tasted too much like a candle still to me.

Orange: Immediately tastes bright and juicy, with a great play of sweet and tart. Really nice orange flavor.

Strawberry: This tastes so “pink” and perfumey. It took me a moment to figure out if I should eat it or spit it out just because it tastes so floral. It kinda comes across as inedible at first. Disappointing, since strawberry is usually the “safe” flavor of the bunch.

Cherry: The cherry surprised me a lot. It is not overly bitter or strange tasting. It’s actually quite nice. The flavor is very fruity, jammy and “red”. It’s not bitter or too fake.

After trying all these candies, I felt a bit let down. The flavors I was expecting to love I really didn’t, and the flavors I thought I wasn’t going to like were just “meh”. Still, if you’re into this kind of candy I suggest giving them a shot. Since I am more of a chocolate and jelly bean person shouldn’t let me turn you away from something you know you enjoy. Either way, they’re pretty to look at as they’re colorful and cute!

I took a candy hunting trip to my local Target in search of good Easter fodder for this blog. I found a lot of options, too many in fact. It can be so hard to choose! This move theater sized box of Swedish Fish caught my eyes right away. I saw the word “Eggs” on it and knew that it was something new that I hadn’t tried before. I wasn’t sure how Swedish Fish eggs would work, but I was curious and had to find out.

The box is very colorful. It’s filled with springtime colors and a basket full of Easter eggs. “What, you never heard of candiar?” says the red Swedish fish sporting a pair of bunny ears. This package reminds me of what people say a bad acid trip is like.

The candy in the package is a mix of the candiar and small classic Swedish fish.

The red Swedish fish taste totally familiar. A bright, sweet cherry flavor. It has notes of bitterness, but they are rounded out with more fruity “red” flavors, so it’s hard to find them completely medicinal tasting. 

The “candiar” is little round half domes. One side is flat so they can sit nicely on a surface without rolling around. The come in four colors: teal orange, chartreuse and yellow.

The teal colored ones taste…hard to say. They’re sweet, and fruity, but not really of anything specific. The yellow ones are clearly lemon. It’s a great lemon flavor that’s both sweet and zesty at the same time. I’m reminded of a lemon Starburst. The chartreuse candiar is lime. It is sweet and zesty, but it has a slight floor cleaner taste to it. The orange is, well, orange. The flavor is sweet with a slight tart note to it, and I’m’ reminded of tangerines. The size of the candiar is nice, and they’re very “poppable” My fiance and I couldn’t help but to keep popping them in our mouths.

Both my fiance and I really liked these. They’re a fun variation on the classic fish, and it’s nice to have so many flavors in smaller shapes. We plan on going back to Target to get more of these, we found them to be super yummy.
