I was pretty excited when I saw these Newman’s Own Licorice Twists in the store the other week. I bought these Tangerine ones along with the Black Licorice ones I reviewed last time. Licorice twists are a candy that I really want to love, but they always disappoint me by being so flavorless. Here’s hoping that these will live up to how nice they look!
These twists are really pretty to look at. They’re a nice orange color with a hollow center. I can see these being some adorable lemonade or cocktail straws. They have no aroma, but they are soft to the touch, yet firm at the same time so they have a nice chew to them. The flavor is a nice tangerine. It’s certainly not orange. It has a nice sweetness with a really solid tart edge to it. The chew keeps you busy, but it isn’t hard. it does ask for more effort than a Twizzler. Tastes much better too.
I am really pleased with these. They’re so tasty! Both my fiance and I agree that these are super yummy. They package has 5oz of them in there, and I wish I had counted the twists before I started eating them. It’s a good amount I feel. If you’re into these types of candy, I recommend you check them out!

I found these licorice twists in Whole Foods the other week. Usually I skip over the candy aisle in that place, since I’ve tried most of it and new products show up rarely. I was lucky to pass through and see these twists by accident. I immediately scooped them up, since I don’t get to have good licorice things often. I also really love the idea of licorice twists, but have yet to find a kind that I truly enjoy.
The twists are very pretty. They actually look like vine charcoal. They almost have a dusty look to them. They smell faintly of licorice.
I am happy to see that molasses and licorice root are both listed on the ingredients list. I take my first bite and I immediately love what I’m tasting. These are very molasses heavy licorice twists. They have a nice thick chew, and a really silky licorice flavor. It’s only slightly herbal, with a nice sweet smoothness from the molasses. These are way better than any type of mainstream licorice twist I’ve had to date.
I really am smitten with these. If you’re a fan of licorice at all, or are looking fora good licorice candy to try for your first time, I really recommend these. Yum!

These black licorice strawberries are not only cute, but they’re also flavored lightly with strawberry!
My fiance found these Butterfinger Snackerz at the candy stash that he has at his work, and thoughtfully brought me home a package for the blog. It looks like this is how Butterfinger is trying to make its way into the “snack food” genre and out of the “candy bar” aisle. The package is a decent size for a candy snack and has all the looks and familiar appearance of a Butterfinger candy bar. It’s been ages since I’ve had a Butterfinger, as it’s not one of my favorites. Still, I’m curious to give them a try to see if it lives up to the original.
The Snackerz are about the size of a frosted mini wheat. The are a muted, dusty chocolate brown with orange drizzle stripes on them. You can tell just by the appearance that these are not real chocolate, and a peek at the ingredients list only confirms my suspicions. The smelly very intensely of peanut butter.
They are very light and crispy, which the peanut butter interior works very well with. The flavor is very intense of the salty peanut butter inside. It’s flavorful and salty, which peanut butter should be. The chocolate exterior is gross. It’s boring and flavorless. It has no taste and a slightly slick texture. The candy left crap stuck in my teeth which is super annoying.
On the whole, I didn’t like these very much. The mockolate is bland and the peanut butter crisp is flavorful but irritating to eat. I’ll have to try a traditional Butterfinger now to see how it measures up.

This candy bar caught my eye immediately. I found it while on a trip to New Your City. I was in town for a wedding, and earlier in the day I was exploring around Soho. I went into Dean & Deluca’s to poke around for some candy, since they tend to carry more obscure and high end types. That is where I saw on their chocolate shelf, this Sir Francis Bacon Toffee Bar.
This bar really stands out. It’s not shaped like most chocolate bars, but thicker and heftier. It’s like a mini brick. I really like the style of the packaging. It has the engraving of Sir Francis Bacon on the front, wit ha pig snout pasted on his face like a sticker. If you look closely you can see they drew in the strings that holds the snout to his face. Very clever.
The back of the package reads: “We start with rich, buttery toffee, add the surprise of artisan smoked bacon, then enrobe it in premium dark chocolate. The result? A bar as original as it is unforgettable.” Excited after reading this, I open the box and pull out a large block wrapped in maroon foil. I unwrap the foil packet and you can see the big block of chocolate toffee there. It’s very pretty, the chocolate is dark and smooth with a nice subtle sheen. It smells dark, rich and slightly smokey.
I try to take a bite of the bar, but I find that it’s just too thick for me to break a corner off with my front teeth. I angle the bar so I can chew it from the side and lightly clamp down in hopes of lightly breaking off a piece. I broke a corner off successfully and saw that under the chocolate this is a giant slab of toffee. The toffee is very flavorful, full with notes of butter and something toasty. The chocolate is good, and adds some sweetness, but it’s really the toffee that shines here. As for the bacon? Every so often you can take its smokiness, and some bacon flavor. It isn’t with every bite, and the toffee flavor really overpowers everything else.
This bar isn’t as bacon flavored as I imagined. Which, is probably a good thing because you want a good balance of flavors, even more adventurous ones. It is really excellent as just a toffee with chocolate bar, so if you wanted to try something with a “light” bacon experience, this bar is a good start. Both me and my fiance greatly enjoyed it.
